Find and Replace Text
Find and replace in pasted text, with optional regular expressions.

What the result means
The result is the pasted text after replacements, together with a count of matches that changed. By default the find text is literal, so a period matches a period rather than any character. Ignore case changes the search and not the spelling rules of the replacement. A regular expression runs only when that option is ticked, and a pattern that fails to compile shows the error instead of a partial edit. An empty find box does nothing and says so, which avoids a match at every position. This is not a file editor. It does not open, save, or rename a file, and a dollar group is inserted as plain text rather than as a captured value.

Questions
Is this a file editor?
No. It changes the text in the box and shows the result on this page. It does not open a file, save over one, or rename one. Closing the page discards the paste.
Can I use regex?
Yes, if you tick the regular expression option. Otherwise the find text is literal, and a period matches a period. A pattern that does not compile shows the error message and does not pretend the replacement worked.
What happens when the find box is empty?
Nothing is replaced, and the page says so. That is true for literal text and for regular expressions, so an empty pattern cannot match at every position. Type the text you want to find before you replace.
